Please note: Independent schools frequently offer IGCSEs or other qualifications alongside or as an alternative to GCSE. The DfE does not record performance data for these exams so independent school GCSE data is frequently misleading; parents should check the results with the schools.

Special Education Needs

Hillingdon Manor School is an independent specialist school for children with higher functioning autism and Asperger's syndrome. It accepts pupils from the age of 4 years to 19 years. The ethos of the school is based in psychological theory and neurological research. The school aims to work holistically. It does this by working with the child's family and through providing a low anxiety learning environment. This is facilitated through a genuine no blame culture where 'what works ' is promoted. In addition clear rules and boundaries, consequences and personal responsibility and teamwork are built into the structure of everyday experience. The approaches used are designed to ensure that children's emotional needs are met and that children and families are provided with structure, consistency, clarity and calmness. Training and home support is provided for parents. Parents are required to agree to sign a contract to work with the school. The environment gives pupils constant opportunities to win awards and achieve at exam level. Pupils have access to GCSE, ASDAN and Duke of Edinburgh's Award. They also have work experience and where appropriate access to mainstream settings. Pupils are set up to succeed at all that is offered them. The school aims to reduce the limiting effects ASD places on individuals and their families. It aims to minimise disability and maximise ability.
