Special Education Needs
The Good Schools Guide writes: Hillside School caters for pupils with autistic spectrum disorders. Many pupils have highly individualised learning programmes with specialist teaching techniques and programmes such as PECs, Makaton, Hanen (a speech and language therapy programme) and electronic devices to aid augmented communication used where appropriate. Speech and language therapy is integrated into teaching and learning. Other therapies used include: aromatherapy and music therapy. The school actively promotes physical activity with pupils participating in athletics, games, swimming, horse riding, dance etc. The school has extensive grounds which include grass and hard surface areas.
