Special Education Needs
At HSDC Alton we offer a wide range of provision to support students with additional learning needs, embodying a strong spirit of inclusion. We have specialist staff that provide one to one support for students with Dyslexia, and have good access to other specialists for advice (e.g. sensory impairment /physical disability) whenever needed. Our provision includes: a discrete programme for students with moderate learning difficulties; a range of supported level 1 and 2 vocational courses; specialist support for students with Specific Learning Difficulties at any level but especially at Advanced level of study; and subject specific support provided in all curriculum areas. We have a unique partnership arrangement with Treloar College (a neighbouring specialist FE College for students with Physical Disabilities). In June 2004 the two colleges were jointly awarded an Association of Colleges Beacon Award (sponsored by Mencap and RNIB) for Inclusive Learning. We currently have in the region of 30 'Treloar students' mostly taking Advanced level qualifications with us through this long standing partnership.
