What the school says...

Kilgraston Prep School and Nursery is the junior school for Kilgraston and caters for girls between the ages of 2 and 13 (boarding from age 8) and day boys between 2 and 9 years. There is automatic entry to the Senior School which takes girls from 13 to 18 years.

All-through school (for example 3-18 years). - An all-through school covers junior and senior education. It may start at 3 or 4, or later, and continue through to 16 or 18. Some all-through schools set exams at 11 or 13 that pupils must pass to move on.

Principal

Since April 2015, Mrs Dorothy MacGinty, previously head of St Francis' College in Hertfordshire, where she has also been head of biology, head of games, boarding housemistress and deputy head. She is married to Frank and they have three children; the youngest has joined Kilgraston. See main school entry.

Head of junior school since April 2016, Andrew Stewart, who has taught at the school for several years and was previously an outdoor education teacher.

Entrance

Head meets with prospective parents; fair number of first time buyers; gentle assessment, otherwise by interview and school report. Automatic (£500 carrot) from nursery. Taster days are welcomed.
