The atmosphere is academic right from the start. In reception, we did see girls dashing about in the spacious outdoor learning area, but the children indoors were doing subtraction sums - with impeccable handwriting and no mistakes. MHSG is clearly proud of the feminist legacy of the Pankhurst sisters, its most famous old girls. The school has recently rebranded and redesigned the uniform, drawing on the colours of the Suffragette movement - but at the same time moving forwards...

All-through school (for example 3-18 years). - An all-through school covers junior and senior education. It may start at 3 or 4, or later, and continue through to 16 or 18. Some all-through schools set exams at 11 or 13 that pupils must pass to move on.

Since September 2021, Samantha Gibbons. Before having her three children and taking a career break to bring them up, she sold computers for an IBM dealership. She retrained as a teacher once her children began school, gaining her NQT at Lady Barn House Primary School in Cheadle, where she remained for 16 years, working her way up to deputy head. During that time, she undertook the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH) and became an ISI inspector.
Entrance
Assessment of pre-schoolers is informal - as you’d expect. Girls applying for entry at 4+ are invited into school to take part in activities where staff observe them and interact with them.
