There are two irreducibles here: the enthusiasm and hard work of the pupils, and the way they are storming every educational citadel that confronts them. Almost uniquely in our experience, Private Study Periods live up to their name – the sense is that serious study is being undertaken in silence by everyone there. Since 2014, when the school opened, Mouhssin Ismail (late 30s), former City banking and finance lawyer at Norton Rose Fulbright and one-time Essex cricketer. Nobody can have any reason to question Mr Ismail’s deep seriousness and intensity of purpose. Very much admired and liked by all constituencies – ‘There are many explanations for the school’s success,’ said one parent, ‘but Mr Ismail is at the heart of each of them.’
