Oban High school probably more than any other secondary school we have visited has fully embraced the idea of the Curriculum of Excellence and shaping an education to each individual child. Apparently the superior performance of the school’s rugby squad (the girls have twice won the Scottish bowl) brought the Scottish Rugby Union to their door...

Since 2008, Peter Bain MA MSc PGCE. Since 2019 executive head of both Oban High School and Tiree High School. Married to Theresa, local college manager, with two teenage children. Educated at Musselburgh Grammar, he had to support himself through a history degree then a masters in historical research at Edinburgh University after his parents died suddenly. After 10 years spent rising to a managerial position in business retail, he recognised a calling to teach and again self-funded himself through a PGCE at Jordanhill College in Glasgow.
