What the school says...

Parkgate House School is a leading independent co-educational preparatory school and nursery, for children aged 2 1/2 - 11 in Clapham, London. Residing in a historic Georgian Grade II listed building overlooking Clapham Common, the School was rated “Outstanding” in every category by Ofsted in 2022:

“Pupils are safe and happy at Parkgate House School… Pupils are resilient and confident… They are proud of their school… behaviour is exemplary…”.

“Leaders have designed an ambitious, broad and rich curriculum… In all lessons, including those in the early years, pupils’ motivation and attitudes to learning are excellent.”

“Teachers are confident in their own abilities. They demonstrate strong subject knowledge and transfer this successfully to pupils.”

Children of all ages enjoy specialist teaching in subjects including Sport, French, Music, Drama, IT and Horse Riding.

What makes Parkgate House special is that it combines the individual, bespoke approach of a small school with the opportunities and ambitions of a bigger school. The school places huge emphasis on getting to know every child as an individual, and positive relationships amongst the whole school community underpin all the School’s values. The Headmaster, Mr Mckinlay, believes that a happy community with proactive and nurturing pastoral care from the Nursery up to Prep 6 enables children to thrive; not only academically, but also in terms of developing their self-confidence, their creativity, their ‘soft skills’, and their sense of individuality – whilst also being part of ‘something special’ at Parkgate. From the moment pupils enter the purple gates, the sense of homeliness is palpable, and as one Prep pupil, Georgie, remarked: “Everyone here knows you – it’s like we are all one big family”. Pupils leaving Prep 6 go on to do well at the UK's top independent senior schools, with many securing outstanding scholarships.

Parkgate House School celebrates success at every level and in every sphere of school life, be it academic, sport, music or the arts. Parents' assemblies provide the school with an excellent opportunity for this, as do annual music recitals, art exhibitions, award ceremonies and drama productions. For all those reasons you will find Parkgate House a very special and unique school, providing your child with the very best education has to offer.

Do come and experience the special Parkgate spirit in person - you will receive a warm welcome.
