It’s a rare special school which asks us to schedule our visit around the GCSE exams – but students here may be taking up to six. ‘Has a real community and family feel to it. Warm and inviting. Academic matters

It’s a rare special school which asks us to schedule our visit around the GCSE exams – but students here may be taking up to six. GCSEs are offered in English, maths, science, art, geography, and hospitality and catering. There are optional Saturday morning classes for year 11, to blitz on English or maths in preparation for GCSEs. Other children take entry level English, maths and ICT, or AQA accredited courses – they all leave with some certificates.

School is pleased as punch that some of the pupils have left from a school for moderate learning disabilities with a B at GCSE maths. And in art they achieved above the national average for all students in a recent exam – out of nine entrants, six gained...

Redwood Park is a community special school providing for pupils from eleven to sixteen years who have special educational needs. Pupils have moderate learning difficulties including complex needs and autistic spectrum disorders. All children have a statement of special educational needs and some have behaviour problems.
