What the parents say...

There isn't a huge amount of information on River-House on the internet and I struggled to find much information before enrolling my son at the school other than via an open day and the OFSTED report, so I wanted to share my experiences so far with my son in reception for other prospective parents. I would say that the school has two critical areas that it focuses on (a) confidence and (b) independent thought. So to increase confidence children are encouraged even in reception to take responsibility with small tasks such as taking the register down to reception on their own, do small performances for the whole school at morning assembly and to have a great deal of interaction with other classes and adults. As an example they recently had an 'international day' where pupils set up their class as a country then parents were encouraged to come into the school and take their child around each class with a passport to learn about each country. This really captured my sons imagination and he's become very interested in a number of countries such as Japan and Egypt as a result. For independent thought the Montessori concept comes into play with the children having regular Montessori classes where they can undertake their own activities in pairs or groups. My sons favourite (he tells me) is to take a huge box of numbers and put them in order. There is a very clear time table with a range of subjects. We chose Mandarin on the language option and my son can after a term speak various simple phrases and seems to really enjoy it. Project work so far has included subjects such as the solar system, famous artists and plants and flowers. So far I've been extremely impressed.

Thank the school

Parents and pupils often have cause to acknowledge the help and support they have received from their schools, for example in helping in the choice of further education or careers. "Say thank you" allows you to send a quick note of appreciation to the school in general or to an individual teacher.

This is a thank you to your school, teacher or careers adviser who helped you to get where you are now.

Please fill in the fields below, which we will transform into a letter of thanks from you to them.

Leave blank if you want to thank the school as a whole

Years you were there

Can be left blank but, if you can, think of a few words that will bring a smile.
