What the school says...

Rydal Penrhos is a Christian school in the Methodist tradition, and welcomes pupils from all faiths or none. We provide exceptional day and boarding opportunities for boys and girls aged 11-18. As a member of the IBO (International Baccalaureate Organization), the school expects pupils from an early age to think and work for themselves within a global dimension and sets great store by self-development through independent reflection and learning.

In 2013, 24% scored at least 7 A* and A grades each at GCSE, with 86hieving at least 5 good passes at A*-C. In IB, 84% of students achieved higher than the average Diploma score of 29.81, giving us an average point score of 33.7, with one pupil achieving the top score of 45 out of 45 In A-level, 65% were awarded grades A*-B and 81% were awarded grades A*-C.

We offer full, weekly or flexi boarding. The five boarding houses enjoy excellent standards of decoration and facilities and plenty of individual character. There is a wide range of weekend boarding activities, and inter-house competitions throughout the year. The schools longstanding sporting tradition is well supported with excellent rugby, hockey, and cricket pitches and its own RYA accredited sailing centre. The swimming pool, drama studio, music, art and DT are in constant use.

His own background is a top notch modern university, York, where he graduated in history. He has worked extensively in the boarding sector, and was a senior leader at Worth and deputy head at Haileybury before coming to Rydal Penrhos. His interests look beyond the walls of the school – he writes for the educational press, runs half marathons, joins in the Saturday park runs and is restoring a 19th century barn. Wife Karen has had a successful career first in publishing and...
