What the school says...
Saint Cecilia’s Church of England School is a vibrant co-educational academy. The school provides outstanding education with a distinctive Christian ethos for pupils aged 11-18 years. It currently has over 930 pupils on roll, including approximately 200 students in its thriving Sixth Form. The school’s current SIAMS inspection grade is ‘outstanding’. “Pupils of all abilities and backgrounds flourish as a direct result of the school’s deeply embedded Christian character. The truly exceptional quality of care for staff and pupils is widely recognised to be a direct result of biblical inspiration from Ephesians 4:2: ‘Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.’ The Bethany Centre demonstrates this in full measure. It provides a vast range of services closely linked with chaplaincy including restorative justice sessions, parenting groups and bereavement support.” SIAMS report 2016
Saint Cecilia’s specialises in the teaching in Maths and Music and provision for both subjects is outstanding. Music clubs include jazz, string and brass groups, choir, orchestra and musical theatre. Musicians perform at venues such as the Royal Festival Hall, including an annual music tour abroad and regular visits to the Royal Opera House, ENO, Southbank Centre and West End theatres. Saint Cecilia’s is also a Secondary Beacon School for the London South West Maths Hub. Pupils in school develop a deep knowledge and understanding of mathematical concepts due to the Mathematics Mastery teaching.
The school is academically strong. Pupils and sixth formers consistently perform well above average in GCSE and A level examinations. Every year, a high percentage of students gain places at prestigious Russell Group universities, including Oxford and Cambridge. Saint Cecilia’s has strong rugby, netball, athletics and football teams that successfully take part in weekly local and regional competitions. The school also has links with the Wimbledon Tennis Championships and each year - a number of pupils are selected as ball boys/girls for this prestigious summer tournament. Pupils and sixth formers take part in a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities in UK and abroad, including language exchange programmes. The school has also many links with top universities to provide students with first-hand experience of higher education. Saint Cecilia’s is conveniently located in Sutherland Grove, SW18 5JR in the residential area of Southfields, between Wimbledon and Putney. Special Education Needs
We work within the Wandsworth guidance on provision for children with SEND in mainstream schools which explains the ways pupils and students with different additional needs are provided for within the school. We also follow our equality policy and have an accessibility plan. At Saint Cecilia’s all pupils, regardless of their particular needs, are offered inclusive teaching which will enable them to make the best possible progress in school and feel that they are a valued member of the wider school community. We may offer the following range of provision to support children with communication and interaction needs, cognition and learning difficulties, social, and mental health problems or sensory or physical needs: Smaller group sizes in some subjects, including English and maths (at KS4); in-class support across the curriculum; small group literacy and numeracy support; language support groups; dyslexia support groups; social skills groups; behavioural support; emotional and social development projects; one-to-one mentoring and coaching; and work with outside agencies such as speech and language therapists/Garratt Park school. If there are more applicants to a school than it has places for, who gets in is determined by which applicants best fulfil the admissions criteria.
Admissions criteria are often complicated, and may change from year to year. The best source of information is usually the relevant local authority website, but once you have set your sights on a school it is a good idea to ask them how they see things panning out for the year that you are interested in.
