What the school says...

At St Columba’s we provide a broad, high quality education from 4 to 18, and welcome boys of all faiths and none. We educate both the ‘Head and Heart’ and aim for each boy to achieve his own best standard, where they become confident, resilient and compassionate young men.

At each phase of education, we nurture the key Columban qualities of courage, courtesy and compassion. We strive for academic excellence whilst realising that it is a well-rounded education that prepares boys for the world and workplace of tomorrow. As a school established by the Brothers of the Sacred Heart, we recognise that moral qualities are equally important in that roundness of character.

In our Prep School, the boys are taken on a thorough educational journey by a dedicated staff team, who create the best opportunities for every pupil. Children are challenged and taught to think and enquire in a nurturing and supportive environment, with a rigorous and exciting curriculum and a broad extra-curricular enrichment programme. We are proud of our reputation for high academic achievement with first-rate pastoral care. We aim to launch the boys on their journeys to becoming well-rounded, socially aware young men, equipped for twenty-first century society.

Other features

All-through school (for example 3-18 years). - An all-through school covers junior and senior education. It may start at 3 or 4, or later, and continue through to 16 or 18. Some all-through schools set exams at 11 or 13 that pupils must pass to move on.

Special Education Needs

We provide support to address difficulties students face, be they academic, physical or emotional. As pupils move through the Prep, we continue to assess their progress, putting into place one-to-one interventions, small-group sessions and support by caring, expert staff, as well as input from outside agencies as required. Our provision is inclusive and collaborative. Parents are closely involved at every stage, working with the SENCO and members of their team to develop individualised plans and targets which are regularly monitored and reviewed.
