What the school says...

St. Nicholas Preparatory School aims to provide your child with the very best start in life. You will experience a warmth and interest in you and your child which we will translate into a sense of educational purpose. This is a vital moment in your childs development and we want to provide a momentum to their learning. Our Nursery and Reception provide a stimulating environment nurturing independence of spirit which will serve your child well not just now but for the rest of their life.

In the mainstream of the school (Key Stages 1 & 2) teachers provide increased structure, expectation and challenge which sits readily with our belief that children learn best when they are happy and therefore they are happy to learn. Education is far too exciting to be limited to a classroom and the curriculum stretches far and wide into clubs, societies and trips ensuring we reach out to the whole person. Children leave St. Nicholas with confidence but also assured they have much in which to be confident thus fully prepared for the next stage of their exciting journey through life.

Special Education Needs

The school takes a positive and professional whole-school approach to pupils with SEND. To ensure the needs of pupils with SEND are addressed, the SENCO will: - identify and assess pupils with SEND and where necessary, refer for further assessment by other professionals such as educational psychologists, specialist teachers and therapists - develop and monitor support measures where a need is identified - develop and update the SEND Register and ensure that these are circulated amongst teaching staff - work in close liaison with teaching staff to ensure confidential communication on learning needs and progress of pupils - teach pupils according to their specific needs, recognising their particular strengths and learning needs to promote achievement of their academic potential - communicate effectively with parents/guardians on the learning needs of pupils and provide an Individual education plan for those pupils on the SEND register and ensure that these are circulated to the staff of specific pupils - collate evidence to support applications for additional funding and access arrangements in examinations
