NB Parents of Nursery girls may, of course, choose fewer sessions. All-through school (for example 3-18 years). - An all-through school covers junior and senior education. It may start at 3 or 4, or later, and continue through to 16 or 18. Some all-through schools set exams at 11 or 13 that pupils must pass to move on.

Since September 2015, Mrs Sarah Conrad, previously head of New Hall Prep School in Chelmsford. Having graduated with a BA in English, German and theology from the University of Durham and completed her PGCE, began her career in primary education teaching in a variety of schools including a four-year post in the renowned British International School, Tanglin Trust School, in Singapore. Returning to the UK, worked as director of music at top preparatory St Cedd’s School in Chelmsford before moving to New Hall. Married with two daughters.


Entry into the co-ed nursery is from the age of 2. Entry into the prep is by report and informal assessment during a welcome day, as well as references from previous school. The main criterion is whether the child is likely to cope in the senior school. In...
