What the school says...
Stanchester Academy provides comprehensive education for students aged 11-16 from Stoke-sub-Hamdon and its surrounding villages. We offer an excellent environment in which our students are supported to achieve their very best. Our school site is surrounded by open countryside which provides excellent opportunities for environmental studies and fieldwork.
We aim to ensure that our students enjoy stimulating teaching and we strive to engage, motivate and challenge students of all abilities. We teach our students the skills needed to become independent, confident and articulate learners. All members of our school community have a shared ambition, common direction and set high expectations for ourselves and others.
At Stanchester Academy we believe there are no limits to what our students can achieve, that we can make a difference and Stanchester is the place where this can happen All students are entitled to a learning experience which is personalised to meet their individual needs and where required we discuss with parents individualised curriculum and timetable provision. All members of our community are entitled to equal opportunities and we promote an environment of mutual respect.
Our Students are the most important aspect of our school community and we encourage students to take part in the running of their school by promoting the Student Voice and developing student responsibility. One of our highest priorities is to provide guidance and support to encourage all students to achieve their potential and aim for high academic standards.
Our GCSE results have risen year on year with record numbers of students achieving 5A*-C GCSEs inc. English and Maths in 2013.
We value and appreciate the important role that parents have to play in supporting their child in developing a positive attitude to school and learning. Research has shown that children learn best when home and school work in partnership. At Stanchester we offer a range of opportunities for parents to become actively involved in Stanchester and in supporting their child in school, for example Year 6 Family Interviews, Parent / Tutor Evenings, Parent Teachers Association (PTFA), Information Evenings and events and becoming a Parent Governor.
We are proud of our links with our partner primary schools and all Year 5 students enjoy a WOW day at Stanchester. In addition, an extensive induction programme supports all students joining us in Year 7

If there are more applicants to a school than it has places for, who gets in is determined by which applicants best fulfil the admissions criteria.
Admissions criteria are often complicated, and may change from year to year. The best source of information is usually the relevant local authority website, but once you have set your sights on a school it is a good idea to ask them how they see things panning out for the year that you are interested in.
Many schools admit children based on distance from the school or a fixed catchment area. For such schools, the cut-off distance will vary from year to year, especially if the school give priority to siblings, and the pattern will be of a central core with outliers (who will mostly be siblings).
