Special Education Needs
Strand Junior School is an inclusive school where we aspire to meet the needs of all pupils. The children who need additional support work in small classes or groups where the work is set at an appropriate level for the pupils learning. Each class has a full time teaching assistant as well as the class teacher. The progress of all pupils is monitored very closely and targets set. There is a close liaison with parents regarding their child's progress. Those pupils who have IEPs meet with parents twice a year, in additional to parent's evenings. The children are also involved in these meetings.

Admissions criteria are often complicated, and may change from year to year. The best source of information is usually the relevant local authority website, but once you have set your sights on a school it is a good idea to ask them how they see things panning out for the year that you are interested in.
Many schools admit children based on distance from the school or a fixed catchment area. For such schools, the cut-off distance will vary from year to year, especially if the school give priority to siblings, and the pattern will be of a central core with outliers (who will mostly be siblings).
