What the school says...

Sunninghill Prep School is located at the heart of the county town of Dorchester. We are passionate about ensuring that all our pupils are supported, encouraged, challenged and ultimately achieve their personal best.

Driven by inspirational teachers who understand the need to go the extra mile, academic rigour is a standard part of everyday life at Sunninghill.

To achieve our shared ambitions, we set individual targets and closely monitor endeavour and performance, sending home effort grades every half term and attainment levels twice a year.

To celebrate and encourage achievement we hand out awards and certificates in Friday assemblies. We have a termly Academic, Music and Sporting Endeavour Awards assembly and an annual celebration of achievement in our end of year Speech and Prize Giving ceremony.

We also appreciate that our pupils must build up an array of skills through our Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTs) program that helps fulfil ambitions in Year 6 when sitting 11+ exams in Maths, English and Science and from there matching confidently onwards towards Year 8 when all pupils will sit a 13+ Common Entrance exam in all the major subjects.

In particular, and from an early age, teachers encourage the ability to think creatively and work independently, both at school and at home. They understand that whilst clever children know the answers, bright children have the questions.

Our aim is to inspire each and every individual to have the confidence and desire to achieve their full potential within a nurturing, supportive community that empowers pupils to be themselves and do their very best.

Individual: Pupils have the confidence to be themselves and have the right to be treated as individuals. They will know their rights and also their responsibilities.

Distinctive: As a school we offer opportunities for every pupil to achieve their maximum potential through a broad and exciting educational offering which gives choice for their future education.

Family: Our Dorchester school operates as a tight knit community, encouraging enthusiastic and supportive participation from all its stakeholders.

We work hard to ensure that everyone feels valued and all pupils are inspired to achieve to the best of their ability, gaining an understanding of how to become responsible citizens through actively helping each other.

We create a vibrant, cohesive school where a caring family ethos pervades the school community.

Pupils respect each other and their teachers and are proud of their school. They are keen to contribute to their community and take their responsibilities seriously. We expect the standard of behaviour at school to be excellent. Pupils know they can turn to staff if they have any concerns and are well supported by a high level of pastoral care.

Appropriate measures are in place to ensure the welfare, health and safety of pupils and we work hard to promote the wellbeing of pupils.

Our effective tutor and reward systems contribute to understanding right and wrong. Staff know pupils extremely well and pastoral needs are effectively monitored and supported by the strong pastoral structure that underpins daily routines. Older pupils also understand that they are role models for younger pupils and they relish this responsibility.

Thank the school

Parents and pupils often have cause to acknowledge the help and support they have received from their schools, for example in helping in the choice of further education or careers. "Say thank you" allows you to send a quick note of appreciation to the school in general or to an individual teacher.

This is a thank you to your school, teacher or careers adviser who helped you to get where you are now.

Please fill in the fields below, which we will transform into a letter of thanks from you to them.

Leave blank if you want to thank the school as a whole

Years you were there

Can be left blank but, if you can, think of a few words that will bring a smile.
