What the school says...

Swanbourne House is a thriving independent, co-educational Prep School, with boarding, day and nursery departments. The school is located on a glorious site of 55 acres in Buckinghamshire with outstanding facilities.

Our strengths include excellent academic achievements, pastoral care, creativity in art and design technology, sport and extra-curricular provision. We pride ourselves on preparing pupils for scholarships and entry to the top public schools and guide parents to help them find the school which will best suit their child.

Yet, with all their skills and learning, Swanbourne pupils do not grow up too soon and they enjoy the fun and spirit of a fantastically rich and varied school life.

What the parents say...

We can’t recommend Swanbourne House highly enough. Our children are greatly enjoying the Junior School with everything that there is to offer in terms of a strong curriculum, sport, music and drama. This is a very nurturing school that plays to the strength of the individual, cares about your child and listens to the parents. The staff are very supportive and responsive, and Mr Hitchings, the headmaster, always makes the effort to talks to us, mention specific things about our children and even introduced us to other parents at school matches when we were new to the school, which made us feel part of the ‘Swanbourne Family’ from day one. The class sizes are small and our children are flourishing with the quality of teaching, the breadth of the curriculum and the trips on offer. They have been afforded fantastic opportunities in new sports and sporting fixtures which has brought on their confidence in bounds. There is also a fabulous music department and the quality of the recent junior school production of ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’ would not have been amiss on a professional stage. The school provides delicious meals and our specific dietary requirements were dealt with very efficiently by the school nurse and the catering team. Located within acres of beautiful wooded grounds, the children relish the break times when they can run free, play and be children. We have yet to decide whether we will choose a boarding school after Swanbourne, but we feel assured that if we go down this route we will be supported through the school’s integral boarding house. The school is very well connected to the best secondary day and boarding schools and detailed help is given to choosing a school that is right for your child. In summary, the school wants your child to be the best they can be and encourages hard work to attain this. It affords opportunities to bring on your children’s confidence and academic levels and we have noticed a remarkable improvement in such a short space of time since joining the school that we wouldn’t have believed possible. It is also important to note that the school places great value on the mental attitude/approach and politeness of the children, which helps prepare them for future and produces well-rounded, well-mannered children.

Our children are in the Prep school and have been at Swanbourne House School since the Pre-Prep, both have been very happy and so have we. The overwhelming feeling is that as parents we have an inclusive relationship with the school, we have always felt welcome and listened to. Many things make Swanbourne House School special, but for us the main one is that they know the children and are able to offer flexibility in order to provide students with the individuality in terms of their strengths and weaknesses, it’s certainly not just a one rule fits all approach! It is the whole team effort that makes SHS great, from the facilities staff who take care of the site and children, the catering department who provide for all dietary requirements, the staff in reception who always give you a warm welcome to, of course, the teachers and the Headmaster who are always willing for the children to achieve to their full potential and celebrate their efforts. Swanbourne House School is a wonderful start to your child’s school life.

Our son was at SHS from age 3-13, and our daughter has been there since age 3.....she has nearly 2 years left there. We have been impressed by the opportunities that our children have been given during their time at SHS.....from learning new skills to learning new sports! They have a good broad-based academic schedule, as well as providing the children opportunities to find something other than academic subjects to hone in on and expand on. This prep school has prepared our son well for his next step...boarding at a public school. Our daughter currently boards 2 nights a week in preparation for her move to the same public school. They have a fabulous music department, and also drama is well organised...with several productions over the school year. The children are outdoors a great deal....for sport every day, and at play times and lunch breaks....boys and girls alike. There are plenty of opportunities for travelling abroad, and going on outdoor adventure weekends away. The children are all happy and well mannered, and in this day and age, that speaks volumes!

Speaking as parents of Children both past and present we can certainly recommend Swanbourne for a variety of reasons. Swanbourne has provided our children with a great environment in which to learn with fantastic support from the staff. Most recently we were most impressed in the way that the school prepared us for our next school (for our child who has recently left). There was excellent communication through out the process and a solid plan from the school to ensure we achieved success in getting a place at our chosen next school. We have every confidence that this will be the same for our second child who is still at Swanbourne. We are also pleased to see the positive steps being taken to enhance the schools facilities with lots of positive developments being made both now and in the coming months. Finally my wife and I have also felt that we have been part of the school and have made lots of wonderful friends and enjoyed all of the events held by the school especially "the annual sports day". I can only suggest you take the time to come and visit Swanbourne as I am sure you would not be disappointed.

Thank the school

Parents and pupils often have cause to acknowledge the help and support they have received from their schools, for example in helping in the choice of further education or careers. "Say thank you" allows you to send a quick note of appreciation to the school in general or to an individual teacher.

This is a thank you to your school, teacher or careers adviser who helped you to get where you are now.

Please fill in the fields below, which we will transform into a letter of thanks from you to them.

Leave blank if you want to thank the school as a whole

Years you were there

Can be left blank but, if you can, think of a few words that will bring a smile.
