What the school says...
We have a splendid position right in the middle of Durham, yet tucked away in a peaceful and quiet corner with plenty of open spaces and playing fields on our doorstep. We are able to keep pupil numbers carefully controlled which means that the children know each other and all the staff. We are also a happy school with a strong sense of belonging and where pastoral care is as important as academic achievement.
The Pre-Prep and Nursery is a well-established, fully co-educational unit within the school. The children learn French from Reception and enjoy a much broader curriculum than is often available. Specialist teachers take classes in music and games and there are plenty of opportunities to take part in a range of after school activities, wrap around care is available. During Reception and Year 1 the children are taught in a small and self-contained environment. By Year 2 the children start to participate in more activities which bring them into contact with the Prep School and so help them to prepare for the transition in Year 3.
We are the only stand-alone preparatory school in Durham, and have an excellent academic record, with many pupils transferring to their chosen senior schools with scholarship awards academic, music, sport, art and drama. We have a very vibrant music department and can offer additional private lessons for almost all instruments. Art and sport are all strong, and there is a wide selection of clubs and activities in the afternoons after lessons are over. ...Read more
