What the school says...

Welcome to Thetford Grammar School an independent day and boarding school for 3 - 19 year olds.

We believe in the importance of a small school setting where a detailed picture of each pupil – their strengths, their needs, their hopes – is known by all staff. This means we are able to set challenges appropriate to our pupils' ability levels, ensuring that they are always being stretched to achieve the very best of which they are capable.

The excellent relationships between pupils and staff result in a strong family atmosphere.

Small classes ensure that pupils receive individual attention from teachers. The excellent relationships between pupils and staff result in a strong family atmosphere. Knowing our pupils well encourages them to take risks, safe and certain of our support for them.

We offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities because we know that well-rounded young people are best equipped to thrive academically and socially. Our pupils have many opportunities to develop artistic, sporting, musical and linguistic skill through additional classes, clubs and activities. This approach means pupils become increasingly confident, resilient and able throughout their time with us.

Our pupils achieve outstanding results at GCSE and A level, with the majority of our Sixth Form going on to study at universities in the top tier of UK and global rankings including Oxford and Cambridge.

All-through school (for example 3-18 years). - An all-through school covers junior and senior education. It may start at 3 or 4, or later, and continue through to 16 or 18. Some all-through schools set exams at 11 or 13 that pupils must pass to move on.

Please note: Independent schools frequently offer IGCSEs or other qualifications alongside or as an alternative to GCSE. The DfE does not record performance data for these exams so independent school GCSE data is frequently misleading; parents should check the results with the schools.

Special Education Needs

Thetford Grammar School has been providing specialist dyslexic support within an independent mainstream educational setting for many years. In recognition of this the school has also been CReSTeD registered since 2013. We are proud to have helped many dyslexic students achieve their potential, progressing to either sixth form or college courses of their choice and then often on to universities - including Oxbridge. As a CReSTeD school we recognise that some dyslexic pupils may benefit from an adapted curriculum and our pupils are able to benefit from small learning groups and additional access to support. Where appropriate, for example if detailed in the provision of a current EHCP, the school can also offer integrated speech and language therapy and occupational therapy. Our pupils take on average 8 GCSEs (including the core curriculum subjects) and entrants should be identified as at the higher end of the average range or above. Prospective pupils will attend a number of taster days prior to being offered a place to ensure that their needs can be appropriately met.
