Special Education Needs
At Tile Hill Wood School and Language College we have a specialist department called 'Student Support'. The core purpose of this department is to provide and co-ordinate the support for all students in the school, whatever their need may be. There is a team of teachers, education assistants, language support assistants and learning mentors. They work both within the base as well as with students and teachers in the classroom setting. Students' needs are identified initially through our links with our feeder primary schools. Once a student arrives in our school they are assessed and their progress monitored closely. We recognise that some students find transition to a new school difficult. We aim to support these students through our Emotional Literacy and Social Skills programmes. Our recent Ofsted inspection praised the high quality of provision and noted especially that staff worked well together in supporting our students. We are able to offer specialist support for students who have specific learning difficulties, as well as specialist teacher assessments for dyslexia as well as a range of other difficulties.
