Other features

All-through school (for example 3-18 years). - An all-through school covers junior and senior education. It may start at 3 or 4, or later, and continue through to 16 or 18. Some all-through schools set exams at 11 or 13 that pupils must pass to move on.

Entry is by registration fee, recent reports, and a taster day including a verbal assessment for KS1 entrance, and a written for KS2 entrance. Assessments are to ensure the school has the appropriate provision is in place, not as a selection process. They rarely turn anyone away, unless special needs are too complex. For entry to reception, several trial mornings in the summer term to ease transition. One parent told us, ‘Taster days worked well and he clearly enjoyed them. When being shown around the school, the sixth former showing us around was open and honest, which provided a credible experience.’
