What the school says...
The Main School (4-11) is girls only whilst the Nursery (3-4) is coeducational. The school is well known for its high academic standards and broad curriculum. Curiosity and independence of mind is developed and each pupil is encouraged to develop their own character, personality and self-esteem. Falkner House is large enough to provide a full range of facilities and equipment and attract a loyal and highly capable staff but small enough to retain the intimacy and personal touch essential to a a child's development. Above all, in the midst of academic rigour, the children have fun!
In September 2017 Falkner House opened a junior school for boys (4-11) in Earls Court. The new school has the strengths of the original: small, family run and personal, with exceptional teachers, a broad curriculum and the best fundamental educational principles at the heart of the school. There is the same emphasis placed on camaraderie, good manners and kindness. Every child should have the right both to a happy childhood and the very best education, with the importance of the academics balanced by sport, music and art. Boys develop their strengths without being hot-housed; they are prepared for the best possible schools for them at 7, 8 or 11+ in a sympathetic and supportive fashion. Anita Griggs. She’s the daughter of Flavia Nunes, who set up the girls’ school in 1954; she also oversees the boys’ school, opened in 2017.
Falkner House is a family business par excellence. Flavia Rogers, headteacher of Falkner House girls’ school (a history teacher who has taught in New York and at Kingston Grammar) and Eleanor Dixon MA (Cantab), headteacher of Falkner House boys’ school, are Mrs Griggs’s daughters. The three form a tight management team. ‘You could move any of us into either of these three jobs,’ says Mrs Griggs. A third daughter, Marina Wood, works as the registrar of the boys’ school.
