‘We take our art very seriously,’ our tour guides told us as we trooped past works by the likes of Gwen Hardie, Mary Fedden and John Bratby adorning the walls. Our boys are taught separately from the girls throughout lower down the School. The School goes from strength to strength. Head
Since 2020, Mr Christian Warland and Mrs Sophie Strafford, formerly boys’ school head and registrar respectively and now principals and, incidentally, siblings. They have worked at the school for several decades combined; their mother, visionary Mrs Jillian Oddy, owned and ran the school from 1973.
Girls’ school head since 2020 is Mrs Emma Studd, who joined the school in 1998 as a teacher after a short stint in publishing and two years in the maintained sector. Prior to becoming head, Emma focused heavily on the 11+ process and relationships with onward schools. ‘She’s very much in tune with the girls’ needs,’ one parent told us. Special Education Needs
We are a non selective school. We support children with mild learning difficulties on a one to one basis or in small groups. We do not take children with specific learning difficulties but as can be seen below we can cater for difficulties in children already on our roll. We are able to use outside agencies to come into school to help with speech problems, dyslexia and dyscalculia.
