What the school says...
St Richard's is a small, inclusive church school, set in generous green surroundings. It boasts good rates of pupil progress, a strong sense of belonging, a united, ambitious and friendly staff team, excellent facilities and even its own school pool!
Recently graded a 'Good' school by Ofsted, St Richard's believes wholeheartedly in a culture of 'behaviour through expectation'. The school places is a strong emphasis on staffs' continued professional development and welcomes the government's desire to raise expectation and achievement for all. The extra curricular activities on offer are plentiful and many of them are provided free of charge by staff and volunteers.
The SEN provision is a strong feature of the school, with one member of staff recently receiving an award for 'best educational resource' at last year's BESA Education Awards.
The PTFA (Parent, Teacher & Friends Assoc) is now well known for running regular, big name comedy evenings (Tim Vine included!) and the school's presence in the community and at local events, is well felt and increasingly ambitious.
The school has a rich musical heritage and places in the infant and junior choirs are highly prized. Last year, as well as singing for parents and visitors each term, the children sang at the Ham Fair, the community 'Carols by Candlelight' service, the Rose Theatre Kingston, M&S 100th Year Anniversary and the O2 Arena!
'Thank you for inviting me to the Candlelit Service. I really enjoyed it by far the best Carols of all the Carol concerts I went to (7!) The kids were just lovely huge praise to the music teacher. If there are more applicants to a school than it has places for, who gets in is determined by which applicants best fulfil the admissions criteria.
Admissions criteria are often complicated, and may change from year to year. The best source of information is usually the relevant local authority website, but once you have set your sights on a school it is a good idea to ask them how they see things panning out for the year that you are interested in.
Many schools admit children based on distance from the school or a fixed catchment area.
