Unicorn School was founded in 1970 by a small group of local parents and teachers who wanted to create a school that offered children a rounded education, encouraging them to flourish creatively and to enjoy the process of learning, in a safe and happy environment.
This ethos remains as strong today, with a curriculum that covers so much more than the core subjects. The breadth of opportunities on offer for the children, supported by talented staff, ensures every child can find areas of personal strength and particular enjoyment.

Since 2021, Polly Fraley, an Oxford history graduate with a PGCE in primary education. Arrived at Unicorn in 2008 as head of learning support and juniors, before moving to a state primary school in Sheen - ‘a brilliant experience,’ but one that made her realise, ‘we’re so lucky in the independent sector.’ Returned to Unicorn in 2017 as deputy head. Unassuming, intelligent and a cracking sense of humour. ‘Fabulous,’ say parents. ‘Very approachable, very hands on.’ ‘Always happy to be cornered.’ Manages some cover teaching and a weekly reading group but ‘if I had any scheduled teaching, it would constantly have to be cancelled as things always come up.’ Kind, calm, happy and ubiquitously present, she knows all the children by name and, in most cases, their families too. Special Education Needs
The Unicorn School aims to provide an education in which the different educational needs of each child are understood and met by every member of staff. The school also aims to ensure that all children have full access to a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum. Children who need extra support may be offered one-to-one, or small group, tuition for literacy or numeracy. The school has part-time, trained staff for this purpose. 10-09
