What The Good Schools Guide says..
Classroom learning is focused on developing academic skills at the right pace for the pupils. We saw engaged boys working individually, in small groups and entire classes to develop reflective, critical and creative thinking skills. During the lengthy morning break and lunchtimes the grounds throng with boys belting towards ‘the shrubs’ – a favourite place for ‘meetings, building things and climbing trees’. Boys expressed their enjoyment of reading (Harry Potter is a favourite) but some voiced a desire for...
What the school says...
Lockers Park is a purposefully small school, where boys achieve excellent results alongside an enthusiasm for life.
Nestled in 23 acres of Hertfordshire woodland with Harpenden close by, the school welcomes boys aged 4 to 13 years.
Lockers Park is proud of its all-round record; the number of scholarships awarded to senior schools over the past few years is around ten each year and includes academic, music, art and technology. Lockers Park offers a real family atmosphere, where kindness and community spirit thrive. Whilst day boys can enjoy all the facilities and opportunities of a boarding school; boarding is fun; dormitories are warm, friendly rooms and opportunities for a variety of enjoyable weekend activities are immense. ...Read more

Headmaster
Since 2021, Gavin Taylor BA. Joined the school as a form teacher in 2008 and previously taught at Haresfoot Prep, now part of Berkhamsted School. His love of sport burgeoned during his formative years as a pupil at Magdalen College School, Oxford and while studying education at the University of Wales, Bangor, when he proudly played rugby for North Wales. Lives on site with his wife Nichola and two young daughters, all of whom are fully immersed in life at Lockers – attending open days, sporting events and joining in boarders’ film evenings. Still manages to find time in a hectic schedule to walk the dog and join the occasional bowling session with pupils in the cricket nets.
Having previously been head of boarding, head of pastoral and deputy head,...

Special Education Needs
We provide specialist, individual tuition to address difficulties, primarily with literacy and numeracy. Tuition takes place out of class, with the SENCO or maths support teacher. There is a rotating timetable of specialist support lessons, such that no child misses more than one lesson of any academic subject during the term. A TEFL qualified teacher provides weekly or twice-weekly tuition, outside of the academic timetable, for students for whom English is a second language. 09-09
