The ‘Section Française BIlingue’, for years 7 and 8, uniquely offers CNED where French speakers ‘get the best of both worlds’ for a year or two. These students join their English peers for sport and socialising – and told us they love the freedom, kindness of teachers and it being more personal than their collèges. Parents drawn to the…
What the school says...
One of England's leading prep schools, offering nursery, day and boarding facilities to girls and boys aged from 3-13. Set in 100 acres of beautiful park and woodland in rural Kent the school is within easy reach from central London, Eurostar and Gatwick airport.
Northbourne Park has for many years introduced hundreds of children to the joys and challenges of school life, offering each child the freedom, space and countless opportunities to grow in confidence and succeed.
Although non-selective, Common Entrance exam is consistently achieved with 100% pass rate, with many pupils gaining scholarships to prestigious Senior Schools. We are passionate about Sport and nurture a love for the Creative Arts which, along with our much respected unique Outdoor Education and Bilingual Language Programmes, and the strengths in producing excellent young musicians, ensure every child can flourish.
In a safe and nurturing environment with a real family atmosphere, pupils receive first-class levels of pastoral care. The outstanding boarding facilities provide a home-from-home environment and a continuous boarding service at weekends throughout the term. Accompanied travel services to London also provide opportunities for weekends at home.
Whether they are playing in the woods, camping out, or following our pioneering Outdoor Education Programme, children love Northbourne Park life. ...Read more

Headmaster
Since September 2023, Mark Hammond, previously head of Bede's Prep for three years and before that, at Skipper’s Hill Manor for five. A local lad and ‘product of the Kent grammar system’. Studied English lit at Manchester; PGCE from Homerton College, Cambridge. Taught at a variety of schools across Europe, including Geneva English School, before returning to the UK for pastoral, SENCo and houseparent roles at Junior King’s School.
Parents say he is ‘strategic’ and ‘aligned with the school ethos’, but no schmoozer. ‘He is not here to expand his social life,’ laughed one. We found him focused, relaxed and amicable. Pupils say they enjoy hanging out in his study for chess club. They told us they were relieved that he didn’t arrive with a ‘big bang’ vision for the...

Special Education Needs
Northbourne Park has a well established learning support department providing for SpLDs such as dyslexia and dyspraxia; ADHD/ADD; and giving general support according to children's needs, to any prospective pupil who meets our selection criteria. We have a few children with social communication disorders such as Asperger's Syndrome, and have developed a 'school friendly' approach to their care. We consider each child as an individual and look to provide individual programmes.
