Special Education Needs
We have six classes and 7 Teaching Assistants. One TA is full time and 6 are part time. The SENCO is a full time teacher so Class Teachers (CT) are responsible for their own children on the Code of Practice. Children are identified for academic help from examination of the tracking records of achievement kept for every individual. Other problems may be flagged up by parents, class teachers, the Infant School or helpers. Children are assessed using the Surrey guidelines (FR13). Tests used are NFER Nelson reading, comprehension, maths 7-11, NARA, Vernon's spellings, PIPS and QCA end of year tests. We also bring in outside agencies (after consultation with the Multi Professional Team) for further assessment and advice and liaise with them regarding the writing of IEPs. Children may be targeted for help in particular areas e.g. maths, in which case they will get most or all of their help there. All children on SA+ will get their allotted 2 hours (or equivalent) with a TA, some may get extra. We have no specialist teachers so TAs will liaise with the CTs on work programmes and work either individually with the children or in small groups, in or out of the classroom.

If there are more applicants to a school than it has places for, who gets in is determined by which applicants best fulfil the admissions criteria.
Admissions criteria are often complicated, and may change from year to year. The best source of information is usually the relevant local authority website, but once you have set your sights on a school it is a good idea to ask them how they see things panning out for the year that you are interested in.
