Since 2019, Dr Claire McShane. At the school since 2013, firstly as assistant and then deputy head. State school educated, a love of literature propelled her to read medieval literature at Oxford and then a MPhil at Cambridge, before completing her PhD at Edinburgh. Bright as her dangly button earrings, there’s clearly a razor-sharp academic brain beneath the chic beehive updo. Always wanted to be a teacher because it allows her to be in touch with literature every day.
Began career at Merchiston Castle School, a boys’ boarding school. Has found her vocation teaching and leading girls who ‘need a bit more confidence boosting’ to thrive.
