What The Good Schools Guide says..
School wanted to make the grounds ‘magical’ – and the staff have certainly done that. The school feels like something out of Swallows and Amazons, with Portmore Pond for sailing, Sandwalk Pond for fishing and a jaunty shepherd’s hut on the lawn. Pupils spend as much time outdoors as possible, for learning as well as play. We spotted a year 6 class learning about teamwork and communication in the outdoor classroom (a vast open canopy with a log fire and benches) in the woods. There’s plenty of…
What the school says...
Walhampton champions JOY in all it does and we believe, with a passion, that the prep school years should be some of the happiest, busiest and most rewarding of one’s life.
No other Prep school has a more distinct ‘Swallows and Amazons’ spirit sitting so comfortably alongside academic excellence.
Overlooking the sea and the rolling hills of the Isle of Wight, Walhampton enjoys 100 acres of stunning grounds set within the ancient New Forest. Few schools can match this location. Sailing on our lakes, honey from our beehives, tree climbing club, den building, daily riding lessons… as much learning goes on outdoors as it does in class. The spirit of this place shapes character. Head, heart and hand. Walhampton builds physically, emotionally and mentally robust young leaders.
Alongside academic rigour and excellence, Walhampton strives to develop big hearted and kind pupils. We want young people to experience the joy of service, compassion and community. Our strong links with a community in Cambodia, WW2 veterans, a local hospice and care home and the Worldwide Veterinary Service… these are links that demonstrate Walhampton is a truly outward-looking school. We are busily building bridges with diverse communities near and far. We do this especially well. ...Read more
