What The Good Schools Guide says..
Boys only prep schools are increasingly rare and though parents tend to select Wetherby Kensington for other reasons, they become converts to segregation. ‘I’m not used to single sex but I now appreciate boys learn differently, and Wetherby really knows how to teach boys.’ Staff are well qualified, bright eyed and bushy tailed, and each class has both a teacher and TA. Teaching is imaginative – in one class we watched, boys were...

Head
From April 2023, Liz McLaughlin, currently head of Falcon’s Pre-Prep in Chiswick, will be the new head. Until the new head starts, Mark Snell, head of Wetherby School, is also interim head of Wetherby Kensington.
Entrance
Wetherby Pembridge Minors (Holland Park) is a new nursery (it opened in September 2023) that is part of Wetherby Kensington. It takes boys and girls from ages 2-4 at its site in Edge Street, W8. Boys from the nursery get a priority place at Wetherby School Kensington when they leave, but this is not guaranteed.

Special Education Needs
At Wetherby Kensington, we understand that all of our boys learn in different ways. The main aim of Learning Support within the school is to build each child’s self-esteem, self-confidence and resilience with the goal of creating happy and independent learners who are able to face challenges positively. Our teachers plan lessons recognising these differences and being fully aware of the importance of quality first teaching and differentiation to provide scaffolding, consolidation and challenge. The school also has very good relationships with a variety of external specialists such as occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, educational psychologists and an audiologist who can provide support where necessary. Speech and language therapists asses the boys language when they first begin at the school and are then able to offer in school sessions for the boys. Hearing tests are also offered when the boys begin school in Reception. The school will provide a bespoke individualised programme for a boy with identified learning needs based on recommendations from external reports. Our Learning Support Department is fully involved throughout the whole school, providing, in-class, small group and one-to-one support for boys of all abilities. We support boys in the school in their English and maths lessons and also provide boys with dyslexia and dyscalculia specialist sessions at school. At Wetherby Kensington we assess the needs of each boy on an individual basis and ensure that all boys are able to access our curriculum.
