What says..

So, if you are learning about forces in science, you paddle your canoe on the lake and see and feel them for real; you then replay that in the classroom and (probably) remember it forever. The children who read, wrote about and painted dragons, and then sailed across to an island in the middle of the lake only to find a dragon’s nest and plenty of other ‘evidence’ of dragon life, were undoubtedly ‘engaged and thrilled’.

What the school says...

Windermere School, Ellery Campus is the preparatory department of Windermere School. It provides an exceptional education for boys and girls between the ages of 3 and 11. It is located in the most idyllic setting, high above Windermere, on the wooded slopes overlooking the lake and the Langdales beyond.

Maths and English start each day, and Science is the key to the remaining curriculum, which includes Art, Drama, Design and Technology, all major sports and our unique Adventure programme. Children from the Lake District have been educated at Windermere School over a century, together with boarders who join us from all over the world. We pride ourselves on treating each and every child as an individual. Their academic aspirations, hopes, needs, interests, potential and, most importantly, their enjoyment are at the very heart of our educational process.

Special Education Needs

At Windermere School we ensure that all pupils are able to access a rich, broad and balanced curriculum in order to succeed in fulfilling their potential. This is achieved in a warm, caring and supportive environment, through careful analysis of individual learning strengths and styles. Appropriate support measures are implemented as necessary. These may be in the form of individual lessons with our specialist teacher; support within the class by one of our highly skilled teaching assistants; differentiated work by our experienced class teachers; or, as is most common, a combination of all three approaches.
