The Good Schools Guide review of Keystone Tutors

Founder Will Orr-Ewing is something of a legend in this industry. The old Harrovian was just 21 when he founded Keystone in 2007 and was the first to publish the names and biographies of his tutors on the website, as well as being credited in the national press for the rise of the so-called super tutor (‘high-powered twenty- somethings, tailored to show your child the way to five As at A-level’) towards the end of the noughties.

The Good Schools Guide Education Consultants offer assessments in English, maths and in reasoning. Most schools assess these subjects when considering a child for a place. This is especially important for children coming from different countries with different educational systems. But there can be many reasons for checking a child's progress in these basic skills. • Capital Tuition overview

Review snapsot: Most tutoring is by trained teachers for GCSEs and A levels, with a little (but growing) amount at university level (‘but we hold our hands up if we can’t help, for instance we recently had to turn down a tutoring request from a property development student,’ says Matthew). Specialist subjects currently span biology, chemistry, physics, maths, further maths, English language, English lit, geography, history, RE, philosophy and ethics, psychology, French, Spanish, German, Latin, Ancient Greek, PE, business studies and economics. Small amount of 11+ and 13+ also on offer from non-teacher trained tutors.

  • Dulwich Tutors overview

Review snapshot: DT increasingly works in independent schools, including Habs and Sydneham, but more interestingly in state schools - to help small groups of struggling students, which they offer at a reduced rate. ‘The fact that DT does this work in state schools is the reason I work for them,’ one tutor told us.

  • The Golden Circle overview

Review snapshot: Tutors told us it feels like ‘the elite end of tutoring’ but ‘without being stuffy’. ‘Although a relatively new company, Golden Circle offers world-class education’, said one.

  • SENsational Tutors overview

Review snapshot: A set-up so superb and so clearly desperately needed that you can’t help wondering why there’s nothing else like it around. And believe us, there isn’t. If anyone knows their onions regarding SEN, it’s Joanna, who also cares deeply about the tutors and families she works with. As for conditions… Areas covered: Across London, Surrey, North Kent and increasingly Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, West Sussex and Berkshire, as well as internationally (Monaco and Germany) and online (including overseas, especially Doha and Dubai). read more

  • Expert Tuition overview

A highly ambitious (they're keen to grow) and aspirational (they really want their tutees to shine) belt-and-braces tutoring service.
