The Good Schools Guide review of Pegasus Tutors
Head honcho is Alex Sever, who is chief cook and bottle washer, having grown the business organically since he founded it in 2016. There were two of them originally, but Alex’s business partner Katie moved onto pastures new in 2018, when Alex rebranded it, including a change of name from Humanitas Education – ‘it sounded worryingly like Dignitas,’ he says.
Alex, who has Hollywood looks and style but is as grounded and friendly as they come, has an educational CV to die for. He got a scholarship to Eton, having already been head boy at Caldicott in Berkshire. Then it was - you guessed it - Oxford, where he studied PPP at New College (and represented the university in rugby, as well as being a talented musician) before starting teaching in prep schools in 2009.

The Good Schools Guide Education Consultants offer assessments in English, maths and in reasoning. Most schools assess these subjects when considering a child for a place. This is especially important for children coming from different countries with different educational systems. But there can be many reasons for checking a child's progress in these basic skills. Review snapshot: A highly branded, tech-savvy, energetic tutor agency run by bright young things who have come in and shaken up industry norms. A company with a clear edge and one we would particularly recommend for home schooling.
Review snapshot: Tutors were consistently rated good or very good; a rating of average was as low as it got and even here numbers were relatively small. While there’s not much by way of formal training for tutors, resources are in ample supply – Lynne is on the must-invite list of every major examining board’s…
Areas covered: North west London locals make up the vast majority of the clientele - mostly in N14, N12, N3, N2, NW3, NW4, NW11, NW2, NW9, NW7 and HA8. Online tutoring has widened the company’s reach to include Cardiff, Nottingham, Potters Bar and even Cyprus…
Review snapshot: ‘It’s on the more expensive side, particularly for more experienced tutors, but it’s absolutely my favourite. They’re honest, on the ball and have the best quality tutors,’ concluded another parent. read more
Review snapshot: "Founded in 2006 by Kate Shand who is committed, passionate, energetic and hugely likeable. Clearly on a mission to deliver a top quality service to her clients – and her tutors – Kate is eloquent on the personal nature of the tutor-client-agency relationship and has a positively moral take on what she sees as her job."
Review snapsot: Most tutoring is by trained teachers for GCSEs and A levels, with a little (but growing) amount at university level (‘but we hold our hands up if we can’t help, for instance we recently had to turn down a tutoring request from a property development student,’ says Matthew). Specialist subjects currently span biology, chemistry, physics, maths, further maths, English language, English lit, geography, history, RE, philosophy and ethics, psychology, French, Spanish, German, Latin, Ancient Greek, PE, business studies and economics. Small amount of 11+ and 13+ also on offer from non-teacher trained tutors.
