SEN overview

The Cornerstone Academy is a mainstream school. The school may provide support for students with special educational needs as detailed below. If you require more information on conditions the school can support, we encourage you to contact the school directly.

SEN statement

Provided by the school and not part of our review

Carter Community Sports College is committed to providing equal opportunities for all students to access a broad and balanced curriculum.

Support is provided in all areas of the curriculum through small teaching groups, teaching assistants and individual tuition. Work is differentiated to enable all students to access the curriculum and to achieve their academic potential. Close links are maintained with educational support agencies and the "Code of Practice" guides our decision making in all matters relating to educational needs.

Strategies for addressing the needs of our students are agreed in either Individual Education Plans or Pastoral Support Plans. These plans usually involve a number of professional bodies and the support of parents is paramount to their success. We recognise the views, experiences and knowledge of parents is vital when addressing special educational needs and close contact between home and the school is encouraged.

The school employs a specialist teacher, who withdraws pupils from lessons to provide intensive support with literacy.

For further information on special needs provision, contact Miss J Caldwell Special Educational Needs Co-Ordinator.
