SEN overview

Wednesfield Academy is a mainstream school. The school may provide support for students with special educational needs as detailed below. If you require more information on conditions the school can support, we encourage you to contact the school directly.

SEN statement

Provided by the school and not part of our review

The Governors, Head Teacher and Staff of Wednesfield High School make it their SEN priority objective to meet the needs of all students. This entails a detailed assessment and identification of need upon entry which, in turn, informs the planning that underpins the level and content of the work the students undertake. The assessment also triggers, where necessary, the involvement of support agencies from outside school.

The student is consulted at every stage of the SEN process and his/her wishes are considered to be extremely important as is the help and support of parents/carers. The school has an ongoing dialogue with parents of students who have a Statement of SEN.

The Special Needs Coordinator (SENCO) takes responsibility for the day to day operation of SEN provision. He is assisted by a team that includes an SEN Teacher, Teaching Assistants and Mentors. Other support is provided on a regular basis by the LEA's Learning Support Team as well as other agencies from time to time. The school has been awarded the Basic Skills Agency Charter Mark for the 3rd time. The SENCO has been working with SEN youngsters for over 25 years.
