A very different state offering – more like a private school without the price tag and elitism. Committed to traditional values, high standards, good discipline – doesn’t share its ‘semper fidelis’ motto with the US marine corps for nothing. Those happy with the ‘heads down and work’ ethos are rewarded with an all-round, top-notch education, pastoral care par excellence and enviable opportunities for sport. Suits focused, self-directed types and is definitely not a soft option.

What is this?

Facilitating A levels are ones that are commonly needed for entry to leading universities. They are: biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, further mathematics, geography, history, English literature and classical or modern languages. The % of pupils achieving AAB or higher may therefore decrease if many pupils have opted not to take two or more of the facilitating subjects mentioned.

Teaching & learning

Among the very best state offerings in the country, with an academically rigorous curriculum. It is an all-ability school, for which students are not selected via entrance exams, yet its results are top notch. Value added is also a stand-out point
