A kind and gentle place, which instils a love of learning and an unusual sense of calm in a turbulent world. Not for the super-competitive, but undoubtedly ‘the hidden gem’ many parents consider it.

What the school says

Peace of mind. This is a message that goes straight to the heart of who we are and what we deliver as a school. For our pupils, peace of mind comes from being in an environment where their ideas and thinking are not only celebrated, but matter. Where they understand their own definition of success. Where creativity, academic success and spiritual well-being walk hand-in-hand. For parents, peace of mind is knowing that their child is in a vibrant atmosphere of inclusivity and focus. That they will be encouraged to be confident, 360 degree thinkers, ready to meet life’s challenges.

SEN statement

Provided by the school and not part of our review

The learning support department at St James is led by the SENDCo and supported by staff members and professionals who work to remove the barriers to learning. We understand the importance of providing an inclusive education. This includes pupils with English as an additional language and those with health needs. At St James, we know that every pupil is unique. Because every pupil learns in different ways, we aim to maximise the educational achievement and personal wellbeing of all pupils. The SEND policy and its implementation is underpinned by the special educational needs and disability code of practice. Pupils identified as having a specific need are supported with their learning; reasonable adjustments are made to enable them to have access to the curriculum. We also welcome advice and guidance from external professionals to inform our teaching. We work collaboratively with pupils, teachers and parents to develop and implement strategies that facilitate their learning through an understanding of neurodiversity. Staff are also kept up to date with current research, to provide best practice for all children as they get the results they deserve.
