Academically selective state school
We've reviewed this school • Unlock to access

This is a highly selective school with a strong sense of community, second-to-none peer support and an enormous amount of pupil pride in the school. Coupled with the top-notch teaching, it’s no wonder the academics – not to mention the extracurricular – go from strength to strength. Where other schools try and fail to marry tradition and innovation, this one seems to achieve it superbly and there’s a heavy focus on female empowerment, with girls not only coming out with flying colours scholastically but gaining a good dose of confidence and leadership skills along the way.

Why read our school review?

Unlike other websites, schools can't pay to be included in The Good Schools Guide. This means our review of this school is independent, critical and fair, and written with parents' best interests at heart.

Pastoral care, inclusivity & discipline

Peer support service run by older pupils seen as an integral part of pastoral set-up here. ‘It’s a very supportive community – we look out for each other,’ one girl told us. Plenty of other leadership opportunities. Terrifically active house system.

What is this?

Facilitating A levels are ones that are commonly needed for entry to leading universities. They are: biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, further mathematics, geography, history, English literature and classical or modern languages. The % of pupils achieving AAB or higher may therefore decrease if many pupils have opted not to take two or more of the facilitating subjects mentioned.

SEN statement

Provided by the school and not part of our review

The school’s SEN policy is in line with the Code of Practice.

The school believes that all girls should be given opportunities which will enable each individual to reach her full potential and to make best use of her talents. There is a range of needs and we provide extension activities, support, or counselling as appropriate with the resources available to us.

Whilst this is a selective school, and we are used to providing challenge for able pupils, we also have experience of catering for mild difficulties. If a child with special needs meets the entry criteria, we would look carefully at how best to meet those needs.
