What The Good Schools Guide says..
Head fortuitously began her headship the same day as the announcement that the school would change from Northwood Prep to Merchant Taylors' Prep, which won instant cheers all round as it means boys no longer have to take the 13+ to get into Merchant Taylors’. Not that she needed to win any brownie points as ‘she was already popular as head of juniors,’ says one parent. Maths taught to the progressive Singapore Maths curriculum from nursery onwards, with outstanding outcomes and yet you still see...
What the school says...
Merchant Taylors’ Prep is the preparatory school of Merchant Taylors’ School. Together, we offer a through education from 3-18. Our strong academic record was confirmed by an outstanding Inspection Report in 2016. As a school, we seek to develop learning attitudes and aptitudes and to cater for the interests and talents of every child through a broad curriculum and an extensive range of extra-curricular and sporting activities. An education at Merchant Taylors’ Prep is a unique blend of past tradition, present best practice and future vision.
The curriculum extends National Curriculum boundaries. Emphasis is placed on the core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science with Geography, History, Classical and Modern Languages surrounding this core. Art, Music, Drama, Physical Education and Religious Education are important components too as they give meaning and context to our own culture as well as the culture of others. Design Technology and Information Technology / Computing develop key skills in a fast changing world of digital technology and coding. A platform of different devices are used including tablets in both Prep and Pre-Prep. Our commitment to excellence is shown by investment in the best facilities, equipment and staff.
A modern outlook is also evident in the quality of relationships we foster. Merchant Taylors’ Prep is renowned for its pastoral care. Pre-Prep class teachers and Prep School tutors track progress and inform parents and colleagues about pupil development. From Year 3, pupils belong to one of four Houses. The House system engenders a sense of belonging and provides a framework for behaviour management. House points reward good work and reinforce good behaviour whilst minus marks sanction inappropriate conduct. Behaviour management is transparent and consistent. In the event of a serious breach of discipline, parents are informed immediately. In extremis, the Head reserves the right to suspend a child from school. Behaviour management is clear and based on Fair Rules which have been agreed by staff and pupils.
Communication is established between home and school. Parents are fully informed about events through the website and newsletters. Detailed written reports enable parents to stay closely involved in their son’s progress whilst Parents’ Evenings and Tutorials ensure regular face to face contact. Celebration Afternoon concludes the year with a real community occasion. For further information about Merchant Taylors’ Prep, please visit our website. www.mtpn.org.uk ...Read more
