About Mary
Mary graduated from Cambridge University with a degree in English. She worked in the theatre for several years before retraining as a speech and language therapist at City University, London. Mary joined The Good Schools Guide in 2012.
She has held clinical posts in the NHS and privately, with experience in community services, a specialist autism team and at a school for dyslexia. Mary was appointed to senior SEND editor at The Good Schools Guide in 2020. She combines her work writing SEND articles, reviews and newsletters for The Guide with a governor role at The Oxford Hospital School.
In addition, Mary offers compassionate and sensitive advice to consultancy clients whose children require additional support. She has a particular skill in identifying a child’s strengths and needs, and matching these to an appropriate school. As a mother of three children who have attended a variety of prep and secondary schools, she is well aware that every child with additional needs is unique, and no one school fits all.
