Although it promotes itself as one (very large) school, BSN is spread out over five campuses, each with its own head of school. While the curriculum, policies, and standards are the same for all campuses, there do appear to be some differences between the locations, and there is not much contact between the families of different campuses.
There are three junior campuses (Diamanthorst, Vlaskamp and Leidschenveen) and two senior campuses, one next to the junior campus in Leidschenveen and one in the leafy town of Voorschoten in between The Hague and Leiden. The senior schools cater for students aged 12-18. Today, BSN has become a massive school with about 2,400 students across all the campuses.
The new senior school in Leidschenveen (close to the motorway network) means that children will be able to stay in the same place from ages 3 to 18, obviously a huge benefit for families with children of different ages. The other senior school (SSV - over 1000 students) is a bit further out, in the leafy town of Voorschoten in between The Hague and Leiden.
The Diamanthorst (JSD - approximately 325 students) and Vlaskamp (JSV - about 610 children) junior campuses are located in the residential Mariahoeve area in the north-east of The Hague, 5 minutes from each other. The mid-sized Leidschenveen location (JSL) - with a student body of 450 - is on the western outskirts of The Hague.
Parents who prefer the Vlaskamp location, like it because of its huge outdoor area and proximity to the city centre. Nearby Diamanthorst, on the contrary, although also near the city centre, has a smaller outside space and offers a bit more ‘homely' feel. The Leidschenveen junior location is housed in the newest building (except for its elder sibling), has lots of outdoor space, and a larger number of Dutch children than the other campuses.
