What the school says...
Port Regis is a co-educational day and boarding school for children aged 3-13 which enjoys an enviable reputation as one of the leading Prep schools in the country. Located in the beautiful Dorset countryside, the school provides the perfect environment in which boys and girls can flourish and enjoy school. Our aim is to provide a first class, all-round education which will set a child up for life.
The school is located in 150 acres of parkland in the stunning Dorset countryside and enjoys a beautiful campus with facilities that are second to none in the Prep school world. Extensive woodland with nature trails sits alongside lawns, several ponds and a lake, so that children can enjoy the space and freedom of the grounds. There are also 35 acres of games pitches, a nine-hole (18 tees) golf course, hockey astroturf, hard tennis and netball courts, a 25m indoor swimming pool, a rifle range and an indoor sports complex, which includes two sports halls. An equestrian centre is conveniently situated close to the School.
A Pre-Prep and Nursery opened in September 1993 in the Motcombe Park grounds and enjoys full use of the Prep School's facilities. Children are prepared here for entry into the Prep school at the end of Year 2.
The school's enviable reputation attracts the best teaching staff from all over the country. We are extremely fortunate to have an immensely accomplished team dedicated to delivering the very best education and who provide the happy, family atmosphere in which a child can realise their full potential.
Port Regis is extremely proud of its 100% Common Entrance success record and the high number of scholarships and awards won to a wide selection of senior schools every year. Learning Support is available for children with mild-to-moderate specific learning difficulties.
Extensive opportunities are provided for Music (about three-quarters of the School learn an instrument), Drama (there are up to six productions a year), and Art (in a wide choice of media), with Woodwork, Electronics, Riding, .22 Rifle Shooting, Karate, Gymnastics and Canoeing included in a list of over 70 hobby options. Major team games are Rugby, Hockey, Soccer, Netball, Cricket and Rounders. Inter-school, county and several national competitions are entered. Home and abroad trips take place.
The high standard of boarding provision is an impressively strong feature of the school, which explains why so many boys and girls choose to board (awarded 'outstanding' by Ofsted following the recent boarding inspection). The school was inspected by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) in June 2014 and was rated 'Excellent' in every single judgement.
Open Mornings take place each term and include tours of the school with pupils, a welcome address and Question and Answer session with the Headmaster and other key members of staff.
Academic, Music, Gymnastic, Sport and All-Rounder entrance scholarships are awarded annually. The School also has a wealth of experience in dealing with HM Services Families and offers special awards to children of HM Services Families. ...Read more

Special Education Needs
The term ‘special needs’ should not be confused with ‘low ability’. Experience shows that learning difficulties can provide challenges for the brightest of children. Identification and appropriate support for such needs should take place as early as possible during a child’s time at Port Regis to avoid any loss of self-confidence and to ensure that the full potential of every child is reached. Port Regis has a well-resourced specialist department of eight experienced and qualified teachers trained to teach children with dyslexia and other special needs. We are more than able to meet the requirements of all children with mild to moderate learning difficulties who can be catered for within the normal school curriculum and who do not require a specialist school. We also have specialist staff who can provide extra tuition in Mathematics, Science, French and other Modern Languages.
