For such a small school, having two libraries (fiction and non-fiction) is pure indulgence, but reinforces the school’s message to take up and read. Each class has four library lessons a week and children are paired up with reading buddies, older ones introducing the younger ones to stories above their reading ability. The children perch on Saint John Henry’s original church pews to leaf through mini Shakespeare, Tintin or Caroline Lawrence, and there are shelves of graphic novels for the dyslexic child...

Since 2017, Principal, Mrs Elizabeth Nesbitt, MA Oxon (early 40s). After a degree in classics and history at Oxford, dipped a toe into teaching by taking assemblies at St Ebbe’s Primary School, as part of her role as a church assistant. Her baptism in education began as a part-time classics teacher at Mill Hill School, followed by total immersion at Francis Holland school, Sloane Square, an experience she described as, ‘boutique, where you knew every child, with lots of sparky, happy staff…not high-powered but invigorating’. Special Education Needs

Emmanuel Christian School has small class sizes which enable children of all abilities to flourish. Children with particular learning needs can be understood as the whole child and are largely provided for within the context of the classroom.
