What the school says...
Moon Hall College, incorporating Burys Court Junior School, specialises in teaching dyslexic children in a mainstream educational environment. Burys Court offers Nursery, Pre-Prep and Preparatory education for children aged rising 3-11. From age 7 it provides mainstream 'dyslexia friendly' education which can include intensive specialist help where this is needed.
Since dyslexia is largely a genetic condition, the school is also able to introduce support and encouragement for the younger pupils who are showing early signs and this enables them to learn to read with their peers without encountering the frustrations of 'failure' which often accompanies a first assessment at age 7 or later.
Moon Hall College is a senior school for children with dyslexia and accepts dyslexic pupils aged 11 - 14. Moon Hall College specialises in dyslexic education but can cater also for others who would benefit from the small classes and individual learning programmes, taking students through to GCSE level. Pupils take on average 8 GCSEs including the core curriculum subjects. Moon Hall College has now successfully graduated two years of GCSE classes with all pupils obtaining sufficiently good GCSE results to enable them to go on to senior colleges of their choice.
Moon Hall College/Burys Court was established when Moon Hall Schools Educational Trust acquired Burys Court Preparatory School in 2005. Moon Hall College developed out of and still has close links with Moon Hall School in Holmbury St Marys. ...Read more

Special Education Needs
Moon Hall College/Burys Court specialises in the teaching of dyslexic children in a mainstream environment. It has two levels of help. Severely dyslexic children can join one of the Phoenix classes which concentrate on literacy and numeracy. These have dyslexia trained teachers and assistants who take all academic subjects so that they can reinforce the reading and spelling throughout the day. The children join their age group for non-academic lessons and activities. When they are able to do so, the children rejoin mainstream classes with ongoing support. Children whose need is less acute can join a mainstream class with extra support from the dyslexia trained teachers. Many of the mainstream teachers have been trained in the Phono-Graphix system of teaching reading and spelling and are able to reinforce it in their subjects. The school also has a remedial Maths specialist. Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language Therapy are also available from visiting therapists where needed.
