What the school says...

St Edmund's is a co-educational day school for children age 2 to 16. The school seeks to provide an excellent all-round education and to encourage its pupils to achieve high standards in all that they do. St Edmund's instils in every child a sense of self-esteem and belonging by building on their own talents, opening their eyes to new ones and giving them focused and personal support whenever it is needed.

St Edmund's offers excellent facilities complimented by a long list of co-curricular subjects as well as a pioneering Saturday activities programme.

Celebrating its 150th anniversary St Edmund's has always been known for being distinctively different. From our foundation in 1874 through to the present day, the school has inspired generations of children to immerse themselves in the St Edmund's journey to discover their unique brilliance.

Our one-of-a-kind experience blends tradition and innovation to provide a well-rounded academic programme that values effort and celebrates children's individuality.

With a culture of mutual respect and traditional values, we create a caring and inclusive environment where children feel valued, supported and challenged to explore their passions. By preparing children for a life of learning, St Edmund's empowers them to flourish in whatever path they choose.

All-through school (for example 3-18 years). - An all-through school covers junior and senior education. It may start at 3 or 4, or later, and continue through to 16 or 18. Some all-through schools set exams at 11 or 13 that pupils must pass to move on.

Please note: Independent schools frequently offer IGCSEs or other qualifications alongside or as an alternative to GCSE. The DfE does not record performance data for these exams so independent school GCSE data is frequently misleading; parents should check the results with the schools.

Special Education Needs

At St. Edmund’s we believe every pupil deserves the opportunity to achieve their potential. The academic support department is fully involved in ensuring each child has the support they need to thrive at school. St. Edmund’s offers academic support by trained staff which is tailored to the individual needs of the pupil. The academic support staff work closely with class and subject teachers to ensure continuity and the most effective provision of support. The department includes full time and peripatetic specialists as well as benefitting from a close network of local Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Educational Psychologists and Counsellors which ensure that a rounded approach to academic support is maintained and encouraged.
