There’s a charming-looking ‘worry monster’ in each class, it’s zipped mouth a receptacle for any worries the children wish to write down and ‘feed’ it (for the teacher to read). Since 2000 Emma Gowers, founder, proprietor, principal. A graduate of Trinity College of Music she started a nursery with four pupils, later gaining a Montessori teaching diploma and now gives ‘empowered parenting’ courses on child development and Montessori techniques. She wants children to think, ‘What’s out there to learn?’ School is Gowers’ baby – her maternity leave taken over an Easter weekend then back to school, where her children duly joined. Alongside her drive, she cares deeply - a parent spoke of how she met up to talk when their partner was in hospital and that it made a big difference. Sporting an eye-catching imperial purple buttonhole, when we met. Gowers’ favourite colour is worn by all pupils.
