Each child has their own learning goals, which might be the ability to sit still for five minutes, to make requests, to select a piece of clothing. Goals can be social and functional (such as dressing yourself) as well as academic, such as reading and writing. Pupils are taught in groups but always with one-to-one tutors for each child working alongside the class teacher. Since 2020, Emma Price BA (hons) PGCE NASENCO. Previously English teacher and head of year at Southfields Academy, Emma moved to the BeyondAutism schools as head of pastoral care in 2016, responsible for both primary and secondary ages, she qualified as SENCo two years later. After having a baby, returned to Tram House School as deputy head to the present purpose-built school building. Emma maintains the school's Just Enough Support ethos – 'We don't want them to become over-dependent on the support they have' – and is pleased when the students make small steps of independence like learning to use the security fobs to navigate the corridors. Her office sports the students' artwork, and has a visible open-door policy - children walk in purposefully on our conversation. Her role has seen her...
